Post-16 Bursary

The Bulmershe School Sixth Form is able to offer help students with the cost of studying. The bursary fund is available to students who have lived in the UK or the EU for at least the past 3 years. A student must be aged 16 or over but under 19 on 31 August 2023 to be eligible for help from the bursary fund in the 2023 to 2024 academic year.

There are two types of bursary available, a Vulnerable Bursary and Discretionary Bursary.

Vulnerable Bursary

If you fall into one of the following categories, then you fall into the higher priority group and will receive a Vulnerable Bursary of up to £1,200 per year to help with the cost of studying:

•You are in or recently left local authority care
•You get Income Support or Universal Credit in your own name
•You get Disability Living Allowance (DLA) in your own name and either Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) or Universal Credit (UC)
•You get Personal Independence Payment (PIP) in your name and either Employment and Support Allowance or Universal Credit (UC)

We do require original evidence from external agencies, key worker/social worker or evidence of benefit in your own name.

Discretionary Bursary

You can apply for a discretionary bursary if you aren’t eligible for a vulnerable bursary but you need financial help to stay on in further education. You may be eligible for the discretionary bursary if your household claims Universal Credit and/or you’re entitled to free school meals.

Examples of what the bursary payments can be used for are:

• help with the cost of travel to and from school
• school trips
• travel expenses for university/apprenticeship/careers open days
• books and equipment.

Payment Conditions

To receive any funds once the school has acknowledged eligibility, participating students at The Bulmershe School must adhere to the criteria laid out below.

• Dress code. Students must adhere to the dress code as detailed on the website

• Any poor behaviour or effort on the part of the student which is reported and supported by documentary evidence may result in the student having their Bursary funding removed or reduced.
• Attendance: This must remain above 91% each term. If attendance falls below 91%, then bursary payments may be withheld or adjusted, unless there are exceptional circumstances for the absence(s).
• Submission of work: All deadlines both internal and external should be met with no notification of concerns received by the Head of Sixth Form.
• Attainment: If students are underperforming in subjects, bursary payments may be withheld until subject teacher confirms that an improvement in attainment is evident

The amount that each student will be eligible for will be confirmed once all applications have been received. 

Applications for 2023-2024

The online Bursary form will go live on our website on Friday 22^nd September 2023 with a deadline for submissions of Friday 20^th October 2023.
