Headteacher's Welcome
‘We are a thriving and vibrant community which inspires and empowers students to believe in themselves, be resilient and be ambitious.’
As Headteacher, I am very pleased to welcome you to The Bulmershe School, we are very proud of the superb opportunities we offer to all our students to develop in a community which fosters respect, responsibility, resilience and safety.
Our school has been described by Ofsted as one where students make 'rapid progress' which is 'based on outstanding teaching combined with a high level of care for the individual child'. However, we are never complacent and, as a school, we are constantly looking for ways to improve in order to serve our families and the community with the very best education has to offer. We have high expectations for every student and are committed to delivering an exceptional education.
Bulmershe Academic Performance
Our school continues to make great strides in academic achievement; our results in 2025 saw nearly 65% of all GCSE at grade 5 or higher, and 75.4% achieving grades 9-4 exceeding the national average of 67.4%. Our A-Level results were very strong with our students achieved a remarkable 33% of grades at A*-A, surpassing the national average of 28.3%. An impressive 61% of all results were A*-B, with 82% of all results at A*-C. All subjects have their own stories to celebrate but we are particularly pleased with the performance in several subjects, including 3D Design, Biology, Business Studies, , Chemistry, Computer Science, English Literature, French, History, Maths, Music, Photography, Physics, Spanish, Statistics and EPQ, all of which performed in line with the top 25% of the country. Our results reflect the efforts of our students as well as those of the talented and dedicated teaching and support staff we have here.
Many students have taken places at universities across the country, including at Oxford and Cambridge, and others have secured places on competitive apprenticeship programmes. This is a clear reflection of the hard work of our students, the partnership the school builds with parents and the talented and dedicated teaching and support staff we have here, for whom the overall focus is to help students achieve the success they deserve.
Supporting Students Wellbeing
Striving for academic excellence is obviously very important but we equally value a student’s emotional wellbeing. We have a strong reputation for being a caring school and are very fortunate to have our own Wellbeing Centre which ensures students have time to reflect in a quiet space with a number of highly qualified pastoral colleagues dedicated to supporting students and their families.
Opportunities beyond the Classroom
There are a wide range of Leadership opportunities at the Bulmershe School, in fact, student voice is powerful. We work in partnership with our students who actively participate in the running and decision making of the school. We offer a rich choice of extracurricular opportunities, with year 7 having a ‘club fair’ in the first few weeks. We encourage all students to participate with the opportunities offered to them, with our goal being that they not only develop their self-confidence and resilience but that they also find a lifelong passion that they will carry on well beyond Bulmershe!
Bulmershe Sixth Form
If you are hardworking and ambitious then our Sixth Form is the place for you to pursue the next important stage of your academic career, whether you are considering A-Levels or more applied, vocational courses.
At The Bulmershe Sixth Form, you can enjoy the best of both worlds: the independence of college with reduced hours and more selfdirected study, combined with the familiar support system you're used to, including personalised mentoring, and guidance on your next steps.
Bulmershe Facilities
We have a Sixth Form independent study area and a 400 seat auditorium which houses professional lighting and sound equipment. Wokingham's state of the art Bulmershe Leisure Centre is made available to our students during the school day on our Bulmershe Campus. Their recent £14 million investment means that our students have access to a 4 court sports hall, 6 lane 25 metre swimming pool, teaching pool with moveable floor, 2 dance studios, 75 piece gym and dedicated changing rooms with a safeguarding access control system. Our exceptional sports amenities include 4G AstroTurf pitches, tennis, netball and basketball courts, a dance studio and acres of fields to host a huge variety of athletic events.
