School Direct Teacher Training

Train to teach with the Wokingham Secondary Federation

The Wokingham Secondary Federation is a close partnership of schools whose aim is to support collaboration in order to raise the standards of students’ achievement across the borough. Please see The Wokingham Federation to see more details of our schools.

As a partnership of schools, the Federation is one of the highest performing in the country, with exceptional GCSE and A level results achieved each year.

High quality teacher training provision is an integral part of the work of the Federation. If you are considering a career as a teacher, training with us may be the perfect route in for you. Working closely with the University of Reading, we can offer training places in:

  • Art & Design
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Computing
  • D&T
  • Drama
  • English
  • Geography
  • History
  • Maths
  • Modern Foreign Languages
  • Music
  • PE
  • Physics
  • Religious Education

In partnership with Teach South East, we also offer Business Studies

The Federation is extremely proud of its work with its ITT trainees, many of whom stay on each year to work as teachers in one of our schools.

All applicants successfully awarded a place with us will work in two Federation schools during the course of their training year.

We are looking for applications from people who have the desire, passion and determination to be outstanding teachers. The Wokingham Federation is proud of its schools and they are all keen to work with trainees who would like to be a part of it, at least for a year and possibly for longer.

To see more details of our programmes, please go to the DfE Search Tool and search for The Wokingham Federation.

We would normally expect you to have a 1st, 2:1 or 2:2 honours degree (or equivalent from a university outside the UK). You will also need to have achieved Grade 4 (or C) or above in GCSE Mathematics and English Language (or equivalent qualifications).

If you have any questions or would like any further information about teacher training, please contact either the ITT Coordinator in the school, Annemarie Zalaki, at or Federation Manager, Julian Bushell, at
