The Addams Family Review
Back
The Communication and Performing Arts Team were delighted to secure the rights for The Addams Family, a spectacular musical comedy from the writers of Jersey Boys. Based on the iconic characters created by Charles Addams, the story finds Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, all grown up and harbouring a shocking secret: she has fallen in love with a sweet young man from a respectable family!
A Spooktacular Success The production was a "spooktacular" success, defined by a huge ensemble cast. A highlight of the show was the "Ancestors": a ghostly chorus of students who brought the stage to life (or death!) with incredible choreography, transforming themselves into the very set pieces at times.
The Director noted: "When we first began discussing what this year’s musical should be, one thing was clear: we wanted something fun, something bold and something that would bring together as many students as possible. The Addams Family was the perfect choice."
Performance Highlights The comic timing from the core family members was superb, and the subplot involving Uncle Fester’s bizarre love affair with the moon was a heart-warming highlight. Despite the enormous cast and the complexity of the music, the orchestra was note-perfect, and the vocals were powerful.
As always, the production would not have been possible without the dedication of the Tech Club. These students acquired valuable experience in lighting, sound and stage management, ensuring the show ran with professional precision. It was a top-rate performance that left audiences entertained, impressed and perhaps a little spooked!
