Celebrating academic success is a wonderful moment for our school community, and we are delighted to share our GCSE results for the Class of 2026. This year's Year 11 cohort has achieved outstanding outcomes, combining top individual progress with academic achievement across a broad range of subjects. These results reflect the determination of our students, the expertise of our staff and the support of our families.

For prospective families searching for secondary schools in Woodley/Reading, these results highlight how our nurturing environment helps children of all abilities reach their full potential.

Record-Breaking Progress and Strong Core Achievements

This year's cohort achieved the school's highest ever Attainment 8 score of 50.56, which means the average grade across all subjects studied by our pupils was a solid 5.5. Furthermore, our national Progress 8 score places Bulmershe within the top 25% of schools nationally for the second consecutive year. Over 58% of all grades awarded were Grade 5 or above, and almost 73% were Grade 4 or above, with both measures sitting above national averages.

English and Maths were particular highlights this year, with our students outperforming national figures across key measures. In English, the proportion of students achieving both strong passes (Grade 5+) and top grades (Grade 7+) exceeded national benchmarks. Maths performed exceptionally well, with over a third of our students securing top Grades 7-9, compared to just over a fifth nationally.

Celebrating Personal Progress Across All Subjects

At Bulmershe we measure success not just by high grades, but by the personal progress every student makes from the moment they complete their secondary school transition in Year 7. This year, 25 students made more than two grades of progress across all their subjects during their time with us. In one remarkable case, a student achieved an average of four and a half grades of progress across every single subject studied.

Our broad curriculum ensures that students excel across academic, practical and creative disciplines. Subjects performing in line with or above the top 25% of schools nationally included:

  • Sciences and Maths: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Statistics and Mathematics
  • Languages: Spanish, Arabic and Chinese
  • Creative and Practical Subjects: 3D Design, Music and BTEC Digital Information

Supporting Student Wellbeing for Long-Term Success

These achievements demonstrate what can be accomplished when academic rigour is paired with a strong focus on student wellbeing. Throughout their five-year journey, our pupils benefit from a range of extra-curricular opportunities that build confidence and self-esteem. Whether participating in leadership roles, creative arts or sports, our young people develop the resilience needed to perform under pressure during exam seasons.

This balanced approach is a core part of The Bulmershe School community. We aim to ensure that every young person leaves us not only with strong qualifications for their future careers, but also as well-rounded, thoughtful individuals who are prepared for the next stage of their education.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our parents and carers for their partnership over the last five years. These results reflect the strong relationship between home and school that underpins everything we do. We also thank our dedicated staff for their unwavering support in the classroom and through our pastoral teams.

To our Year 11 students, thank you for your many contributions to school life. We are proud of the young people you have become and look forward to welcoming many of you back into our Sixth Form this September.
