‘Although no formal remembrance service was able to take place in Woodley this year, Bulmershe School made arrangements to lay a wreath of red poppies at the war memorial in Woodley Centre. This has been an important part of the school remembrance commemorations for a number of years and staff and students are pleased to be able to mark the event in such a way. Emily (pictured below) was selected from the A level History cohort to lay the wreath and although not the same as in previous years, the laying of the wreath was still a poignant and moving act of remembrance. In school staff and students joined together to complete two minutes of silence on Friday morning. Following on from tutor time learning linked to the burial of the Unknown Warrior, as 2020 marks 100 years since the original funeral service was held in Westminster Abbey in 1920.’
