The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at Bulmershe
Back
At The Bulmershe School, we are incredibly proud to offer the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) to our students. This nationally recognised programme is a cornerstone of our wider personal development and enrichment offer. Whether it’s navigating the Berkshire countryside with a rucksack and compass or volunteering in the local community, the DofE programme gives young people the chance to challenge themselves, gain lifelong skills and build confidence for the future.
Each year, a dedicated team of Bulmershe staff volunteers give their time and energy to run the Bronze, Silver and Gold levels of the Award. Bronze DofE is delivered through our Year 9 Leadership and Challenge curriculum, while students in Year 10 and above can take part in our after-school Silver and Gold DofE clubs.
We’re so pleased to be able to offer our students the opportunity to develop teamwork, independence, and problem-solving skills in such a practical, exciting way. Taking part in DofE is more than just ticking boxes. It helps young people become well-rounded, resilient individuals. Whether they’re volunteering, learning a new skill, getting active, or planning a hike, students grow in confidence and capability every step of the way. Research from the DofE charity shows that young people who complete the award develop greater self-belief and are more likely to succeed in further education and employment.

We are so proud of our students for stepping up to the challenge - and grateful to our dedicated staff for making it possible. It’s just one of the many ways we help students become confident, capable and community-minded learners at The Bulmershe School.
