At The Bulmershe School, we believe sport is not just about physical fitness - it plays a vital role in helping our students develop teamwork, resilience and a sense of community. This week has been a fantastic showcase of everything we value about PE and extracurricular activities at Bulmershe.

We are proud to offer a wide range of free after-school sports clubs, including football, netball, gymnastics and swimming. These clubs are made possible thanks to the dedication of our brilliant staff, who generously give up their time to run them. Whether a student wants to compete, improve their fitness or simply have fun with friends, there’s something for everyone.

This week, our students also stepped up as role models during Woodley Sports Week, an inspiring local event that saw 2,660 young people take part. Activities included a Kwik Cricket festival, Paralympic festival, Swimming Gala, Tri-sports events and more. Nine primary schools in our area took part, and our trained Bulmershe Sports Leaders supported the events by officiating matches and guiding younger students. The feedback we’ve received from organisers and staff has been overwhelmingly positive - our students were described as “invaluable” and “an absolute credit to the school.”

In addition, over 70 Bulmershe students competed in the District Athletics tournament this week, going head-to-head with other schools from across the region. It was a brilliant day that highlighted both our students’ talent and their determination to push themselves.

Sport is a cornerstone of our wider school values - respect, responsibility, resilience and safety. By encouraging all students to engage with physical activity and take on leadership roles, we’re helping them to grow into confident, capable young people who thrive both in and out of the classroom.
