Bulmershe Celebrates GOLD
Back
We are proud to share that The Bulmershe School has successfully launched its first ever Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) with the first practice expedition heading out over the May half term. This marks a significant milestone in our commitment to offering students a full and enriching DofE journey.
The Gold practice expedition took place in the beautiful and rugged Peak District. Our students faced varied weather conditions including rain, wind and bursts of sunshine, but showed outstanding perseverance and teamwork throughout their multi-day trek. Carrying all their own equipment and navigating independently, they demonstrated the determination and resilience that the Gold Award is known for.
At Bulmershe, we are delighted to now offer the full DofE Award pathway: Bronze in Year 9, Silver in Year 10, and now Gold in the Sixth Form. These nationally recognised awards are not only a fantastic personal challenge, but also boost university applications, apprenticeship opportunities and CVs.
Each level of the award helps young people develop key life skills such as organisation, problem-solving and leadership. From volunteering in the community to learning new skills and completing physical challenges, DofE encourages students to push themselves beyond the classroom and make a real impact.
This Half Term’s Gold expedition was supported by Miss Bishop and Dr Harris, who gave up their own time to make this opportunity possible. Their dedication, along with the students’ commitment, made the trip a real success.
We are incredibly proud of our students for embracing the challenge and representing Bulmershe with such maturity and strength. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award continues to be a highlight of our extracurricular offer, and we are thrilled to be able to support students all the way from Bronze to Gold.
Well done to everyone involved – and here’s to the qualifying expedition later this term!
