On Thursday 6 November 2025, The Bulmershe School welcomed a large group of enthusiastic Year 3 students from Highwood Primary School for our annual Bushcraft Taster Day. This event offers primary pupils an exciting preview of the activities available at secondary school and is a crucial part of our support for the secondary school transition process.

Bushcraft is a highlight of the Bulmershe Year 7 experience, focusing on outdoor skills, confidence and resilience. The Year 3s joined Dr Harris and Year 9 transition leaders on the school field to master the art of fire lighting. They learnt the essential elements of creating a fire, why kindling helps to nurture flames and were sent off to collect fire wood.

A key part of the experience was the fun reward: toasting marshmallows over the campfire. This hands-on activity gave the young adventurers a real taste of the practical skills they can learn at Bulmershe.

A big thank you to Highwood Primary for joining us, Dr Harris for his expertise, and our brilliant Year 9s for helping make the children feel welcome.
